Sichuan province extends regards to material-delivering troops

(PLA Daily)

08:17, June 07, 2012

The Party committee and government of southwest China's Sichuan province conveyed their greetings and appreciation to the officers and men of the troop units of the Chengdu Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) who undertook the tasks of delivering construction materials to the Tibetan areas in Sichuan province and presented silk banners and gifts to the 7 mission-performing troop units on the afternoon of June 4, 2012.

Since 2009, the Chengdu MAC has delivered construction materials to 21 counties in Garze and Aba prefectures every year to help the rebuilding after the Wenchuan earthquake and promote the settlement of Sichuan Tibetan herdsmen -- the action of New Life in Tents. More than 1,000 heavy trucks and over 3,000 officers and men were dispatched every year for the transport tasks.

During the last four years, the officers and men of the Chengdu MAC delivered altogether 53,000 tons of construction materials and 227,000 new-type tents to the Tibetan areas of Sichuan province along with donations of over 2 million yuan and 30,000-odd pieces of articles. Doctors made more than 14,000 times of round-visits and medicine delivery. The officers and men helped the local governments build nearly 100,000 residential houses.
