The sailing-team members of the Dalian Naval Academy of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) were standing on the podium of the 29th Naval Academy and City of Livorno Sailing Trophy on May 1, 2012 in Livorno of Italy, marking the winning of the two trophies, namely the "International Military Academies Cup" and the "International Naval Academies Cup", by the Dalian Naval Academy of the PLA Navy.

Beginning from this regatta, the new type sailboat "Trident -16" will be used instead of type J24 sailboat. This is the first time to change sailboat type for the regatta since its initiation in 1981. The sailing team of the Dalian Naval Academy had only one-month-long training and adaptation period from March 19 when it received the invitation letter for the 29th Italian International Regatta to April 23 when it departed for Italy.

At 09:00 on April 29, 21 sailboats from 18 countries started their first round of competition, but the sailing team of the Dalian Naval Academy only ranked 11. In the following four rounds of contests, the sailing team adjusted its tactics to seize favorable positions while containing its rivals. As a result, the sailboat of the Chinese Navy was always the first to cross the finish line.

On the afternoon of May 1, 2012, the final result displayed on the scoreboard came out that "China" was listed in the highest position.
