The Logistics Institute of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) held a conference to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the institute on May 16, 2012. Liao Xilong, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and director of the PLA General Logistics Department (GLD), attended and addressed the conference.

Liao Xilong urged the Logistics Institute to constantly improve the core competitiveness of teaching and scientific research and cultivate more new-type high-quality military logistics talents, so as to provide strong talent and intellectual support for quickening the pace of building modern logistics in an all-round way.

The CMC officially approved the establishment of the Logistics Institute which was directly subordinate to the CMC on May 16, 1952. In 1993, the CMC decided to rename the institute as the Logistics Command Institute, which was subordinate to the GLD. In June 2011, with the approval of the CMC, the Logistics Command Institute was renamed the Logistics Institute.

The Logistics Institute is the highest logistics institution, the training base for logistics command and management officers and the logistics academic research center of the PLA and the "think tank" offering logistics decision-making consultations for leaders of the CMC and the general departments/headquarters of the PLA. Since its establishment 60 years ago, the institute has cultivated a total of more than 80 thousand logistics command and management talents for troop units successively.
