The PLA Daily learned from the Dalian Naval Academy of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) yesterday that a sailing team of midshipmen from the academy won two championships in the just-concluded 29th Naval Academy and City of Livorno Sailing Trophy, Italy, achieving a historic breakthrough since the academy participated in the event in 2007 for the first time.

The regatta attracting a total of 21 teams from 18 countries was held in Livorno of Italy from April 29 to May 1. Trident sailing boats were adopted in the regatta for the first time. After three days of fierce competitions, the sailing team from China's Dalian Naval Academy defeated traditionally strong teams from other countries including Italy, Britain, Australia, and India and won two championships of this regatta, showing good comprehensive qualities of the new generation of Chinese midshipmen.

The Naval Academy and City of Livorno Sailing Trophy was initiated by the Italian Naval Academy in the year 1981. It is an international sporting event that is mainly open to midshipmen, aiming at promoting exchanges and friendship among navies of various countries.
