BEIJING, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) released a statement on Monday saying it will optimize its membership structure and keep the Party at a "proper size."

Efforts will be put into recruiting Party members from the country's workers, CPC leaders agreed at a meeting of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau.

The leaders said the Party will continue member recruitment among farmers. They said importance must be attached to recruiting young workers, farmers and intellectuals.

The meeting, presided over by CPC Central Committee General Secretary Xi Jinping, also discussed issues including the management of Party members.
