Senior CPC official visits Inner Mongolia

08:03, July 16, 2012

HOHHOT, July 15 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has stressed environmental protection and agricultural development in his inspection tour of north China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region from Thursday to Sunday.

He Guoqiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, urged all levels of Party committees and governments to keep sober-minded and determined to strictly observe the CPC's political discipline ahead of the upcoming 18th CPC National Congress.

While inspecting coal mines, He said the exploration and utilization of energy resources should be well coordinated with environmental protection.

Efforts should be made to enhance technological research and development, He said, encouraging a chemical company to "play a leading role in comprehensively using coal resources."

The local government should strive to develop coal-related electricity generation, chemical industry and environmental protection, support technological innovation, extend industrial chains and increase their additional values, He said.

While inspecting grasslands, He stressed the restoration from farmland to forest, and from grazing land to grassland.

Inner Mongolia occupies nearly one eighth of China's total land area and is one of the country's most important production bases for agricultural and animal products.

In herdsmen's home, He encouraged the locals to develop new-type animal husbandry and tourism so as to improve their living standards.

Visiting the headquarters of China Mengniu Dairy Co., Ltd. in Hohhot, the regional capital, He said the leading dairy manufacturer should prioritize their products' quality and safety, and strive to develop dairy cooperatives in order to guarantee milk quality and increase the income of farmers and herdsmen.

He also visited a nursing home and a charity house to see the elderly and adopted children.
