YINCHUAN, June 27 (Xinhua) -- A written instruction from China's top political advisor to a meeting on ethnic unity held from June 26 to 27 has suggested common struggle, prosperity and development for all ethnic groups as the main theme for the country's work in the area.

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, wrote, "Various regions and departments should summarize experiences from past ethnic work and promote successful examples so as to map out more effective measures to boost the equality, unity, interdependence and harmony of socialist ethnic relationships."

At the meeting, Vice Premier Hui Liangyu stressed that ethnic work is a "major task that concerns national unity and long-term stability," describing ethnic unity as "where the future, power and life of the Chinese nationality lie."

Hui urged departments involved to encourage ethnic groups and regions to seek faster development while promoting job opportunities for people of ethnic groups.

"Solving conflicts with ethnic factors should be an important mission... and education on ethnic unity must be strengthened in the whole of society to promote mutual trust and respect," the vice premier added.
