Liu Qibao elected Party chief of Sichuan province

Liu Qibao was elected secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on May 19.

The election was held at the first plenary session of the 10th CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee.

Liu served as the CPC chief of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region between June 2006 and November 2007 before being appointed by the CPC Central Committee as the CPC chief of Sichuan.

Born in 1953 in Susong, Anhui province, Liu is a member of the 17th CPC Central Committee.
