BEIJING, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Ten model college students and 10 model teachers were received by Li Changchun, senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), here Wednesday.

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, extended respect to model teachers and congratulated the students during the meeting.

Li called on Chinese society to show respect to teachers and create a favorable environment for the healthy growth of children.

Since the 16th CPC National Congress held in 2002, the CPC Central Committee, with Hu Jintao as the general secretary, has placed great importance on children's education and fostering good teachers, he said.

Now, most students and teachers have shown increasing confidence in socialism with Chinese characteristics, and more and more role models have emerged, he said.

China has selected 10 model college students annually since 2006, and 10 model teachers annually since 2010.

Li urged students and teachers to learn from these role models' virtues and good deeds.
