BEIJING, May 24 (Xinhua) -- China's police chief Meng Jianzhu on Thursday vowed to maintain social stability by using advanced technology to strengthen police work.

Meng, a state councilor as well as the minister of public security, made the remark during a visit to the ongoing 6th China International Exhibition on Police Equipment held in Beijing, calling for enhancing the research into, and application of, police equipment and improving the modernization of the Chinese police force.

Meng added that technology is playing an increasingly important role in police work and it has become a critical approach for police in improving their core capacity.

"Whether fighting criminals, maintaining stability or serving the people, we cannot do without advanced technology," said Meng, calling for making maximum use of police equipment in practice.

Meng also urged technical staff to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with foreign institutes of advanced technology to improve their own research capacity.
