Yu Zhengsheng elected CPC chief of Shanghai

SHANGHAI, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Yu Zhengsheng was elected secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Tuesday.

Yu, born in April 1945, was elected to the post at the first plenary meeting of the 10th CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee held in Shanghai.

Yu is a native of Shaoxing in east China's Zhejiang province. He joined the CPC in 1964.

His political career in Shanghai began in 2007, when he was appointed secretary of Shanghai's CPC Municipal Committee.

He is now a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
