BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC)'s publicity chief said Monday that the country should take timely and effective measures to address a moral decline that has been the source of some public complaints.

While attending a video conference on the development of morality, Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said the launching of a targeted campaign to improve moral awareness complies with public expectations and is an important move to address social concerns.

He called for extensive education on moral construction to make basic morality codes a natural part of people's lives.

Meanwhile, Liu said China will act firmly to discourage corruption and strive to nurture a social environment that prizes integrity.

To facilitate the campaign, Liu said China will continue to screen movies and music for immoral content and step up related regulations for the cultural market.
