People's Daily calls for efforts to achieve greater development

08:20, April 05, 2012

BEIJING, April 4 (Xinhua) -- People's Daily, the flagship newspaper of the Communist Party of China (CPC), calls for focusing on reform and opening up and gathering strength to push China's development toward a new height.

"We should have full confidence and take concrete actions to promote the country's reform and development," says a commentary to be carried by the People's Daily on Thursday.

The commentary notes that the annual parliamentary session last month had specified the objectives and key tasks for 2012, while the country still faces complicated international situations and new domestic challenges, which require the Chinese to corroborate their confidence and focus on solving key issues in the economic and social development.

"Our confidence could be obtained from the historical completion of a series of development tasks, including urbanization, health care, education and welfare housing," says the article.

It also describes a promising future of China's reform and development to enhance people's confidence.

"China will soon achieve its goal of building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way and China's modernization is irreversible", reads the commentary.

"There is a bright future for socialism with Chinese characteristics and spirited Chinese are on their way towards the great rejuvenation of the nation which has been dreamed of since modern times", it adds.

To facilitate those long term courses, the commentary urges for more composure and concrete actions in achieving the goals for 2012, which will see the convening of the 18th CPC National Congress.

The most valuable experience drawn from the previous reform and opening-up is that "we should resolutely get rid of interferences and obstacles while resolutely dedicate to our own businesses", says the commentary.

With confidence and courage, efforts should be focused on reform and development, so as to lay a solid foundation for China's development towards a new height, it adds.
