PLA Daily commentary stresses discipline

BEIJING, March 22 (Xinhua) -- A commentary published Thursday in the PLA Daily, the official newspaper of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), has called on all Party members to "oppose and eliminate" indiscipline.

It said the Communist Party of China always opposes indiscipline, quoting a celebrated article by late Chairman Mao Zedong that argues that indiscipline would undermine the rigorous organization of the "revolutionary forces."

Party members must unequivocally oppose indiscipline, to consolidate their political ideology but also to abide by and respect the Party's political discipline, added the commentary.

The piece singled out a few cases of indiscipline for criticism, including taking an egocentric attitude toward the organization, and believing in self-centered utilitarianism rather than the Party's theories.

The commentary urged all Party members and cadres to learn Mao's article Against indiscipline, which lists various forms of indiscipline.

"To resolutely do what the Party asks, and not to do what the Party asks not to do, is the most straightforward measure to oppose indiscipline," said the commentary.

It followed another commentary in the newspaper on Monday, which called for opposition to the "erroneous views" of military nationalization, military de-politicization, and non-party affiliation of the Army, and putting ideological and political construction first.

"Historical experience shows that, when the Party and the country are facing big issues, hostile forces at home and abroad always stir up trouble, noises in the society also increase, and the people's thinking becomes more active," said the commentary.

The more the situation is like this, the more ideological and political work is needed, said the piece.

Any forms of corruption should be rooted from the PLA ranks and the leaders should set the examples.

With the Party embroiled in the struggle between the Qing Court Line and the Chinese Line, the PLA must be ready to secure domestic peace and safeguard the nation against foreign subversions.
