People's Daily hails success of top political advisory body's annual session

08:23, March 14, 2012

BEIJING, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The People's Daily, the flagship newspaper of the Communist Party of China (CPC), will publish an editorial Wednesday that hails the successful conclusion of an annual session of China's top political advisory body.

The Fifth session of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) concluded on Tuesday. Nearly 2,200 members from 34 various sectors attended the session that was held from March 3 to 13.

The editorial praises the CPPCC for its contributions over the past year in facilitating the nation achieving a good start for the 12th Five-Year Plan amid global economic downturn.

CPPCC National Committee members submitted more than 6,000 proposals and made more than 800 speeches during the session, according to the editorial.

"It is a demonstration that the mechanism for multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC fits Chinese situations and benefits the nation's development," says the editorial.

The editorial also calls for enhanced efforts from the CPPCC in 2012 to make more contribution to the country's reform and development.

The year 2012 will be of great importance to China's development as the CPC will hold its 18th National Congress, says the editorial.
