Web China: High-def picture offers rare view into China's political session

11:38, March 10, 2012

BEIJING, March 9 (Xinhua) -- As Chinese lawmakers and political advisors convened this week, the country's Internet users have had a front row seat to catch all of the action in the Great Hall of the People.

A Chinese daily posted an ultra-high-definition picture of the meeting scene on its website. Using new technology, the 1,200-megapixel panoramic shot is so clear that it cleanly captures the faces of almost 1,000 political advisors in the hall.

Since Southern Metropolis Daily released the picture via a microblog post on Tuesday, it has been forwarded more than 20,000 times and drew more than 6,000 comments on the popular Sina Weibo microblogging service.

Chinese Internet users marvelled at the picture for its level of detail -- and for the amount of information it offered about one of the country's highest-level meetings.

"The picture offers me a fresh experience," Internet user "SongjianmingyueCatherine" wrote on her microblog. "It unveiled the true form of the important meeting, bringing the participants closer to us ordinary citizens."

"It's awesome. This is the first time I got an inside look at the meeting," wrote netizen "LiqianQ7."

The picture was taken on March 3, the opening day of the annual session of National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, as its chairman, Jia Qinglin, delivered a work report.

Chinese leaders Hu Jintao, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang attended the meeting along with more than 2,000 political advisors at the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing.
