Facing problems forges confidence for development

Facing up to problems has become a prominent feature of this year's two sessions, the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC): The press spokesmen did not dodge sensitive topics; media coverage does shy away from discussing hot and difficult issues; government work report admitted that "goals of energy saving and emission reduction as well as price control have yet to be completed", and etc..

Facing up to problems is the first step for solving them. Government work report not only acknowledged that obvious problems have arisen from land expropriation and housing removal, food safety, income distribution, and government management and service levels have yet to be improved, but also indicated the room for system improvement and reform advancement, which is increasing people's confidence in government solving problems.

Shortly before the commencement of the two sessions, China's State Council held a general meeting for deploying the key work concerning atmospheric pollution comprehensive prevention and control. The meeting agreed to release the new revised Ambient Air Quality Standard, and the measurement of PM2.5, which ignited widespread public debate, was added into the new national standard.

It is said that the environment of two thirds of urban areas will fail to meet the standards after the implementation of the Standard. However, positioning "pollution issues" above "government's face" demonstrates the respect for the public's rights in environmental protection, and concentrates the joint efforts of environmental governance.

The government's logic to tackle problems lives up to public's demand and also present the direction of China's development.
