BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Li Changchun on Tuesday called on state-owned companies to learn from an elite rocket scientist in their own drive to enhance their ability to innovate.

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remark while visiting the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, the country's largest developer of missile-based weapon systems.

Li referred to Huang Weilu, one of the founders of China's aerospace industry and an academic at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as a role model for innovation.

Praising Huang as a model for senior scientists, Li said the whole of society can learn from his "innovative spirit," and called on state-owned enterprises to create a corporate culture that fosters innovation.

Li also called on members of society to create a "good atmosphere" that respects labor, knowledge and innovation.

Huang died in September 2011 at the age of 95.
