Chinese leaders observe nation's first-ever space docking

BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese leaders including top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao arrived at the Beijing Aerospace Flight Control Center early Thursday morning to watch the live broadcast of the nation's first space docking.

The docking maneuver between unmanned spacecraft Shenzhou-8 and Tiangong-1 space lab module is due to take place shortly after.

Members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, including Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang, were also present at the control center.

Chinese President Hu Jintao is in France to attend a summit of the Group of 20 (G20).

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, is in Germany for a six-day official goodwill visit.
