Senior Chinese leader calls for better work to promote culture-oriented guidelines

10:08, November 01, 2011

BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Senior leader Li Changchun has called for the comprehensive promotion of the culture-oriented guidelines adopted at the sixth plenary session of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

In an article to be published Tuesday on Qiushi, or "Seeking Truth," Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, stressed that the guidelines are meaningful to the reform and development of the nation's cultural sector.

During the session held earlier this month, the CPC leaders adopted guidelines aimed at boosting China's soft power and maintaining "cultural security."

The session approved a decision on deepening the reform of China's cultural system and promoting the development of the cultural industry.

The country will work to improve Chinese citizens' sense of identity and confidence in Chinese culture, according to a communique issued after the session.

Officials and the public should be encouraged to do down-to-earth work to promote cultural construction and prosperity, Li said.
