BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Senior leader Li Changchun on Sunday urged the All-China Journalists Association (ACJA) to make more efforts in guiding the country's journalists to promote social justice, express people's ideas and ensure supervision by public opinions.

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with the leaderships of the 7th and 8th councils of the ACJA.

The first meeting of the eighth council of the ACJA kicked off Friday and concluded Sunday. During the meeting, a new round of leadership was elected with Tian Congming being the ACJA chairman.

Tian was the former president of the Xinhua News Agency.

"As our country's cultural reform has entered a new phase, media workers should play a key role in cultural communication and improve the quality of their publicity work," Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said Sunday.

Liu urged the ACJA to conduct deep research on the new situation and problems faced by the country's journalists and protect their legal rights.
