Senior Chinese official calls for more efforts to help drug addicts rehabilitate

HEFEI, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese official Zhou Yongkang on Tuesday said that more efforts are needed to help drug addicts rehabilitate themselves and return to society.

Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remark at a symposium focusing on forced addiction-breaking and rehabilitation

Zhou said that forced drug rehabilitation is one of the country's justice department's primary functions. He vowed to help drug addicts rehabilitate themselves in order to promote social harmony.

Minister of Justice Wu Aiying also attended the meeting. She stated that drug rehabilitation work has made great contributions to social stability and economic development.
