BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Senior leader Li Changchun has urged Beijing to improve its indigenous innovation capacity and speed up reform in the cultural sector to drive economic restructuring during his inspection of the city.
Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, visited the Zhongguancun high-tech park, cultural enterprises, a film academy and community cultural centers during his inspection on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
At the high-tech park, Li visited Lenovo, e-book producer Hanvon and other high-tech companies, and called upon these enterprises to invest more in research and development to fill China's shortcomings in some core technologies.
While visiting BOE Technology Group Co., a Liquid Crystal Display producer, Li encouraged the company to develop state-of-the-art technology and transform itself into a world-class enterprise.
To learn about the ongoing reform in the cultural sector, Li visited the China Puppet Art Theater, which has shifted from a public-funded institution into an enterprise.
Having learned that the theater has registered a six-fold increase of revenue since its reform, Li encouraged the theater to further boost innovation and competitiveness.
Li also visited the state stadium, which has been transformed from an Olympics venue into a venue for cultural activities run by Beijing Performance&Arts Group Co., Beijing Film Academy, and Beijing Association of Online media.
