China reaps more early season rice despite prolonged drought

Photo taken on Aug. 30, 2011 shows the early season rice fields in Xuanen County, central China's Hubei Province. The yield of early season rice in China reached 32.76 million tonnes this year, up 4.5 percent on a year-on-year basis, though there was a 0.8-percent drop in the acreage, according to a statement issued by the National Bureau of Statistics Tuesday.
