A set of children's story books that depict world history from ancient times until the end of the 20th century is expected soon to reach young readers in China.

Speaking at the launch ceremony in Beijing, Zhang Shunhong with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, says he was impressed by the selection of topics as well as the easily comprehensible writing.

"It's in popular and easy-to-understand language, which also depicts major historical incidents with accuracy. The books have appropriate comments for each history event. These new books would be very helpful for enhancing children's knowledge of global history and cultivating a world vision in these young readers. I'm confident it would be a set of best-selling books."

The world history story book series comprises of more than 400 stories covering historical incidents, stories behind important progress in science and technology and culture as well as biographies of influential historical figures.

History books are popular among young readers, but educators worry that some dramatized TV shows that distort historical facts could misguide children.

The new books are aimed at helping young readers understand history as it is.
