The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides a year into 24 solar terms. Hanlu; literally: "cold dew" is the 17th solar term. It more often refers in particular to the day when the Sun is exactly at the celestial longitude of 195 degrees, on Oct. 8 this year.
Chinese people regard Cold Dew as a high time to nourish body therefore today’s recipe is a course of mutton stew in traditional Chinese style.

The Chinese angelica root has a very important place in women's health. It is supposed to nourish the blood, regulate menstruation and alleviate period pains.

It is usually steamed or simmered with a combo of chicken, mutton, pork and some other herbs. The angelica root usually sold in dry form requires no preparation before cooking. Dang gui is usually not eaten. Just drink the soup. (see the recipe on page 2)
