April on Tibetan’s calendar is the time to celebrate the most traditional festival in Tibet – the Saga Dawa Festival. This year, the peak time of the Saga Dawa Festival happened on June 4 (April 15 on Tibetan calendar). Most of the believers turned the prayer wheels mainly on three routes and the areas around Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street were packed with people.

According to the legend, April on Tibetan calendar is the time when Shakyamuni Buddha was born, passed away, revived and became Buddha. Saga Dawa Festival is to celebrate this day. Every time this year, believers memorize Shakyamuni Buddha in many different forms and do many things to help the poor to accumulate virtue.
