The Shanghai Opera House Dance Troupe will bring to life China's iconic songstress in the 1930s, Zhou Xuan.

The dance drama tells the story of her life experiences and the harsh reality of that gloomy era, which led to her insanity. Audience will get a sense of the folk customs and unique charm of Shanghai during the 1930s.

Zhou Xuan started her career as a singer in 1931 and was known as the golden voice of Shanghai. She also acted in popular films such as Street Angels and Cross Roads. She died at 39, with 43 films and more than 200 songs under her belt.

The dance drama will be integrating film, songs, drama performance, video and other art forms to enable the audience to have a unique yet different experience of traditional dance dramas.

7:30 pm, May 29 and 30. National Center for the Performing Arts, 2 West Chang'an Avenue, Xicheng district, Beijing. 010-6655-0000.
