Chinese Ambassador to Turkey Gong Xiaosheng said China and Turkey have been continuously strengthening political, economic and cultural exchanges in a recent interview on the occasion of Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping's formal visit to Turkey.

Gong noted that the relations between China and Turkey are developing rapidly and the two countries' relations enjoy broad prospects. During Xi's visit, leaders of both countries will further deepen friendship and mutual trust, and map out a grand blueprint for future development of the bilateral relationship.

Gong said that both China and Turkey highly value the development of bilateral ties. Politically, frequent high-level visits of the two countries have helped improve political mutual trust and cooperation.

From 2008 till now, Chinese leaders including Premier Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Li Changchun and He Guoqiang, members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, visited Turkey successfully.

Turkish leaders including President Abdullah Gul and Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan also made successful visits to China.

During Wen's visit in particular, China and Turkey established strategic cooperative relationship and their bilateral relations entered the best period in history. Both China and Turkey play increasingly important roles in significant international and regional affairs, and the two countries have kept close communication.

China thinks highly of Turkey's strategic significance and support Turkey to play an important role in international and regional affairs. China also hopes to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Turkey in major international and regional issues.

Gong said that although facing severe challenges in the post-financial crisis age, China and Turkey, as important G20 group members and representatives of emerging economies, have achieved continuous and rapid economic growth and made significant contributions to the promotion of regional and world economic recovery.

Currently, China and Turkey both enjoy strong economic growth and their bilateral trade cooperation is continuously improving. According to statistics from China's Ministry of Commerce, the bilateral trade volume between China and Turkey amounted to about 18.7 billion US dollars in 2011, an increase of 24.2 percent over the previous year.
