The Intelligence Liaison Office for the Asia-Pacific Region of the World Customs Organization, which currently resides in Beijing, plays a critical role in efforts against illegal cross-border activity in the region.

Since the office moved to Beijing in 2004, it has transferred more than 420 law enforcement assistance requests and more than 200 pieces of intelligence information.

The office has helped the customs department of Japan seize 3 kilograms of methamphetamine, helped the customs department of Switzerland seize 9 kilograms of cannabis and aided the customs department of Spain in seizing more than 100,000 counterfeit products worth about 6.5 million euro. It has turned into a model of successful operation among all of the 11 global intelligence liaison offices of the World Customs Organization.

During China's stewardship of the Intelligence Liaison Office for the Asia-Pacific Region, it has provided a huge amount of information to the member countries of the region and on more than 10 occasions sent technical support groups of experts to member countries, including Pakistan, India, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, Australia, Thailand and Mongolia.

China customs also organized many regional law enforcement communication conferences. These covered subjects like border protection as well as cracking down on commercial fraud, money laundering, drug smuggling and environmental crimes.
