Brazil beat Italy 5-1 in Sao Paulo International Tournament

RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- In the opening match of the 2011 Sao Paulo International Tournament, the Brazilian women's soccer team beat Italy 5-1 on Thursday.

This is the third edition of the annual four-team women's soccer tournament.

Starting the game off strong, Italy scored first in the 17th minute when Tona knocked in a corner kick.

Brazil responded immeadiatley with a goal from Erika in the 18th minute. Tied, Italy dominated the first half.

However, Brazil returned to the second half determined in front of its home crowd. Ester gave the Brazilians the lead in the 60th minute, followed by goals from Cristiane in the 68th minute, Marta in the 88th minute and Aline in the 3rd minute of stoppage time.

Denmark beat the Chileans 4-0 in another Thursday's match.

Brazil will next face Chile on December 11. Italy will face Denmark on the same day.
