MADRID, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Leo Messi continued to set the standard in the seventh round of games played in the Spanish BBVA Primera Liga this weekend.

The Argentinean scored his ninth and tenth league goals of the season as Barcelona defeated Racing Santander 3-0 in a comfortable win in the Camp Nou Stadium on Saturday night.

Xavi Hernandez scored the remaining goal in what was an easy win against a rival that seemed to accept defeat from the moment Messi opened the scoring after 10 minutes.

Betis withstood Real Madrid' s challenge for 45 minutes before succumbing to an impressive second half from Jose Mourinho' s side on Saturday night.

Gonzalo Higuain put Madrid ahead in the first minute of the second half and Kaka doubled the advantage after an hour.

Jordi Molina gave Betis hope with a close range finish after 68 minutes, but Higuain' s second of the night a minute later killed off Betis' challenge and the Argentinean completed his second hat-trick in two matches with a smart chip with 18 minutes remaining.

Joaquin Caparros' debut as Mallorca coach saw his side take a point thanks to a controversial injury time penalty at home to Mallorca. Adil Rami scored from close range to put Valencia ahead in the first half, but Tomer Hemed kept his calm to score the late penalty to give Mallorca a point.

Rami was sent off after the final whistle for insulting match referee Parados Romero and will miss next weekend' s game against Athletic Club Bilbao.

Saturday' s two remaining games between Getafe and Villarreal and Granada and Atletico Madrid both ended 0-0.
