Host to Figueirense, Bahia won 3-1 in the 13th round of the 2011 Brazilian Championship on Sunday.
Bahia snapped a six-game winless streak and won its first match at home in the tournament.
Bahia scored the first half's only goal in the 42nd minute. A loose ball after a corner kick found its way to Avine. Avine took a wild shot, but Reinaldo was in perfect position to redirect the ball and send it into the back of the goal.
Returning to the second half, Bahia extended its lead. In the 71st minute Ricardinho lofted the ball over the Figueirense defense to a wide-open Avine who then effortlessly headed the ball into the open goal.
Figueirense scored its only goal of the match in the 84th minute when Heber broke loose down the field and shot the ball directly at keeper Marcelo Lomba. Heber followed up the rebound and placed the ball past Lomba and into the goal.
Bahia scored once again in stoppage time to secure the win, as Jones drove past the defense on a fast break and drilled a perfect ball past keeper a helpless keeper, Wilson.
The win catapulted Bahia into 13th place with 15 points and helped head coach Rene Simoes gain some peace of mind as his job is secure for the meantime. In the next round of play the team will travel to face Sao Paulo on August 4.
Figueirense drops to 12th place with 16 points. The loss adds to the team's winless streak, now standing at six consecutive games without a victory. In the next round of play the team will receive Botafogo on August 3.
