Coritiba defeats America-MG 3-1

Host to Coritiba in the 13th round of the 2011 Brazilian Championship, America-MG lost 3-1 on Sunday.

After a first round victory, America-MG has gone 12 straight rounds without producing a win. Coritiba's win marked its first as a visiting team.

Coritiba took an early lead in the fifth minute when Bill crossed to Marcos Aurelio. Aurelio leaped above the defense to head in the game's opening goal. Bill added to his team's lead in the 28th minute, dribbling through the defense and blasting a ball at point-blank range that flew past a helpless America-MG keeper, Neneca.

America-MG returned to the second half to score its only goal of the match. In the 55th minute Marcos Rocha lofted a centered ball towards the Coritiba goal, finding a leaping Kempes to head the ball into the back of the net.

Coritiba scored once more in the 71st minute when Maranhao rolled a perfect ball off to Marcos Aurelio who slammed the ball past Neneca and into the goal.

The result improves Coritiba to 11th place with 17 points. In the 14th round of play the team will receive Palmeiras on August 3.

America-MG drops to 14th place with 14 points. In the next round of play the team will travel to play first place team Corinthians on August 3.
