In front of their home crowd in the 13th round of the 2011 Brazilian Championship, Avai rallied from an early deficit to beat Corinthians 3-2 on Sunday.

Corinthians scored the game's only goal of the first half. On the receiving end of a give-and-go with Danildo, Emerson invaded the Avai defense and drilled the ball into the lower right side of the net.

Avai returned to the second half to tie the match in the 48th minute when William knocked in a redirected header from Welton Feliple. William then assisted Rafael Coelho to claim the lead in the 58th minute. Avai increased its lead in the 82nd minute with a great individual play from Coelho.

Corinthians battled to score once more in the injury time when Jorge Henrique received a pass from Felipe, blowing the ball into the right side of the Avai goal. However, the response was too little too late.

Despite the loss, Corinthians remains in first place with 28 points. However, Flamengo decreased the distance between first and second place, trailing only by one point. In the 14th round of play, Corinthians will receive America-MG on August 3.

Avai's win improves the team to 18th place with 10 points. The win marks only Avai's second win of the tournament. In the next round of play the team will travel to play Ceara on August 3.
