LONDON, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Following is a numerical look at the swimming competition at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, which starts on Thursday.

17,500 - seating capacity at the Aquatics Center, the venue for swimming at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

4,200 - athletes competing in all sports at London 2012.

1960 - the year the first Paralympic Games were held in Rome, Italy. The Games involved 400 athletes from 23 countries and regions. Swimming is one of a few sports which has featured in every Paralympic Games.

600 - competitors in swimming at London 2012, comprising 340 men and 260 women. Swimming will be the second-largest competition in London behind athletics.

400 - length in meters for the longest swimming event, the 400m freestyle, at the 2012 Games.

150 - the 150m individual medley is a unique event at Paralympic Games. Swimmers only use three strokes over this distance; breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle.

148 - men's and women's swimming medal events across all classifications.

81 - swimming events for male athletes.

67 - swimming events for female athletes.
