Uruguay to face London 2012 with World Cup's spirit

10:34, April 19, 2012

MONTEVIDEO, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Uruguay's soccer national team will compete in London 2012 Olympic Games with "the same spirit" of 2010 South Africa World Cup and the last Copa America tournament, coach Oscar Tabarez said on Wednesday.

"We can't affirm whether we will be a disaster or we will bring a medal," said Tabarez to local press.

Coached by Tabarez and with stars such as Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez, Uruguay's national team achieved the fourth position in 2010 South Africa and was champion of Copa America Argentina 2011. It has also recently achieved third position in monthly FIFA's world rankings.

Tabarez spoke with journalists during an event hosted by the British Embassy in Uruguay, 100 days before the beginning of the Olympic Games in London.

Asked about the names of the three adult players which he will include in U-23 team, Tabarez said it's impossible to know.

"This will depend on the information we are collecting. I won't take a player to the national team that has a U-23 level," Tabarez said.

The Uruguayan coach said: "I can only take three adults. I can't tell who they are. If I did that, I would be a bad coach."

In London, Uruguay will seek to win the first gold medal for the country after 84 years. The last one was won in 1928.
