CHANGCHUN, Jinlin Province, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top figure skating stars took the spotlight of the ongoing National Winter Games on Thursday as world champions Pang Qing/Tong Jian held off Olympic runners-up Zhang Dan/Zhang Hao to claim the pairs short program title.

Pang Qing/Tong Jian, dressed in purple, staged a perfect routine to grab the gold medal for team Harbin with the highest 70.24 points. Turin Olympic runners-up Zhang Dan/Zhang Hao, who also represent Harbin, finished second with 69.66 points.

Another pair from Harbin Sui Wenjing/Han Cong scored 60.36 points to gain the bronze.

"It has been a while since our last competitive skate. I felt kind of nervous when standing on the ice, to which we used to be very familiar," said Pang, who, with her partner Tong, has been resting for almost a year.

Zhang Dan/Zhang Hao were also satisfied with their performance.

"The points are not very important to us. What really matters is we showed our best form. After all I have been injured for a long time," said Zhang Hao, who was seen both arms bandaged in a pre-match training session here in Changchun.
