China's stocks open sharply down following Wall Street plunge

BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's stocks opened sharply lower on Friday, tracking overnight plunges on the Wall Street and European markets.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dived 1.56 percent to open at 2,519.65. The Shenzhen Component Index opened 1.71 percent lower at 11,218.66.
