Beijing allocates 227 bln yuan for key projects

Beijing plans to allocate 227 billion yuan for 240 key projects in 2013, of which 15 billion yuan will be spend on low-cost housing projects.

The traffic

Second phase of subway line 8 and line 10 will be completed in 2013

The 227-billion-yuan investment plan represents a 27 percent increase from last year. The fund will be spent on 137 new projects and 103 existing projects. Beijing plans to complete 54 projects this year.

The number of existing and new traffic facility projects amounts to 55 this year. After these projects are finished, the downtown area and suburb area can get a better connection.

Projects of two subway lines will be completed this year: the second phase of subway line 8 and three stations on line 10’s second phase. In addition, the north stretched subway line for connecting line 8 and Changping line will be finished in December. The 6.23-kilometer line will ease the operation pressure on subway line 13.

What’s more, the Fifth Ring Road and Sixth Ring Road of Beijing-Baotou expressway will also be completed this year. As an important connection of the ring road, this project will reduce the traffic pressure on Beijing-Tibet expressway.

People’s livelihood

Beijing plans to invest 1.9 billion yuan for migration of population in the mountainous areas in Fangshan.

Last year, Beijing has allocated about 40 billion yuan to improve environment for people’s livelihood, safeguarding like medical treatment and public health, cultural education, social welfare, rebuild of shanty town, policy-related housing, etc.
Beijing plans to invest 55 billion yuan in people’s livelihood safeguarding projects this year, up 39 percent from 2012.

The low-cost housing projects are still the key area which will receive 15 billion yuan this year.

Water control project

Beijing has learnt a big lesson from the rainstorm disaster on July 21, 2012. Projects for managing water logged area in Beijing’s downtown will be strengthened, which will receive investment of 6 billion yuan.
