China’s trade picks up in May: survey

(Global Times)

08:16, June 07, 2012

China's import and export volume increased by 4.1 percent and 6.8 percent year-on-year in May, according to a survey of 53 institutions and economists. These figures far exceeded those seen in April, when imports and exports expanded by just 0.3 percent and 4.9 percent year-on-year.

However, analysts predict that export growth will remain limited due to a downturn in global demand and growing concerns about Europe's debt crisis.

Imports will likely get a further boost thanks to recent government policies to stimulate consumption and investment, experts say.
