New stock index from CCTV goes live

(Global Times)

08:15, June 07, 2012

China Central Television (CCTV) launched its own index on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Wednesday, called the "CCTV 50 Index," the first such index created by the State media.

The index is designed to serve as a guide for stock investors, by analyzing China's listed companies based on five criteria including innovation, growth, returns, governance and social responsibility. A total of 50 listed companies which perform well in these areas were selected as samples in the index's initial launch.

Xing Jingping, chief analyst with Shenzhen Stocks Information Company, said the index will be an important tool to protect the interests of investors.
