Beijing home deals spike in early May

A total of 9,703 home transaction deals were completed in Beijing during the first half of May, the highest level since the beginning of this year, up 45.4 percent month-on-month and 44 percent year-on-year, statistics from the Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development show.

Broken down by category, the city saw transactions for 4,679 new homes and 5,024 second-hand homes, up 46.2 percent and 44.7 percent respectively month-on-month. The average deal price during the period was 19,666 yuan per square meter, nearly even with the same time last month.

As of May 15, the home inventory in Beijing reached 78,385 units, falling below 80,000 units for the first time since the start of 2012.
