Auto sales up 5%

(Global Times)

08:03, May 10, 2012

Vehicle sales in China, the world's largest auto market, rose 5 percent from a year earlier to 1.62 million in April amid tighter credit and slower economic growth, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers announced yesterday.

However, sales for January to April were still down 1.3 percent year-on-year at 6.4 million vehicles.

Auto sales growth in China has slowed from 35 percent in 2010 to just 2 percent in the first quarter of this year, as local governments imposed traffic curbs, credit policies were tightened and economic growth cooled.
