China lacking in famous brands

(Global Times)

08:19, April 25, 2012

Although China leads the world in terms of the number of registered trademarks, the country still suffers from a lack of world famous brands, Fu Shuangjian, deputy director of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, said Tuesday.

Only 21 Chinese brands made it on the 2011 edition of the World's 500 Most Influential Brands listing, and only four Chinese brands were able to rank in the top 100. This shows Chinese brands' lack of competitiveness and influence in the international market, which is inconsistent with the country's economic development, experts added.
