Eight companies are expected to launch initial pubic offerings (IPOs) this week on Chinese mainland bourses. In total, these companies expect to sell 338 million shares in public trading, raising an estimated 3.58 billion yuan ($568 million).

Among these IPOs, the launch of the People's Daily Online Co, the official online portal of the People's Daily newspaper, has arguably attracted the most attention from investors. According to the company's prospectus, it brought in 139 million yuan in profits during 2011.

The price earning ratio (PE ratio) of IPOs launched in the first quarter of this year was 31.47 on average, the lowest level since 2009.
