China still a top market for US firms

(Global Times)

American manufacturers still value the Chinese market, even after the US government's calls for a manufacturing renaissance on US soil, Zhang Xiangchen, director of the Ministry of Commerce's policy research office, said Sunday.

In recent years, the US government has been trying to encourage American manufacturing firms operating overseas to return to their home country as a way to accelerate the development of production centers locally.

But only a handful of US companies that have entered China have voluntarily pulled out of the market. Most of the US's largest companies, such as GM Motors and Apple, are actively planning to increase their investments and production capacities in China, said Zhang.
