Macao's trade deficit reaches 632 mln USD in February

MACAO, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Macao recorded a trade deficit of 5. 06 billion patacas (632.6 million U.S. dollars) in February 2012, as merchandise import soared by 64.4 percent year-on-year, according to the figures released on Friday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Total merchandise export for February amounted to 653 million patacas (81.6 million U.S. dollars), up notably by 82.4 percent year-on-year, with value of domestic export increasing by 50.5 percent to 172 million patacas (21.5 million U. S. dollars), the figures showed.

Meanwhile, total value of merchandise export in the first two months of 2012 increased by 25.9 percent year-on-year to 1.27 billion patacas (158.7 million U.S.dollars), of which value of re- exports and domestic exports rose by 38.7 percent and 3.1 percent respectively

Analyzed by destination, value of merchandise export to Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland in the first two months of 2012 increased by 42.1 percent 26.0 percent respectively year-on-year, the DSEC said.

In the first two months of 2012, value of merchandise import from Chinese mainland (3.47 billion patacas) and the EU (2.76 billion patacas) expanded by 43.9 percent and 25.4 percent year-on- year, respectively, the figures indicated.
