China's international patent filings growth rate under the WIPO's Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) tops the world for the third time in a row, with a 33.4 percent increase in 2011, according to Geneva-based World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

International patent filings from China and other East Asian countries have increased faster while those from traditional industrial countries slower.

China's international patent filings reached more than 16,000 in 2011, rising 8 times than the year of 2004, when China's international patent filings was less than 2,000.
