BEIJING, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares rebounded Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 20.94 points, or 0.86 percent, to finish at 2,455.8.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 126.74 points, or 1.23 percent, to end at 10,427.24.

Combined turnover on the two bourses slightly shrank to 201.5 billion yuan (31.8 billion U.S. dollars) from 206.8 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 686 to 212 in Shanghai and by 1,084 to 303 in Shenzhen.

Most sectors gained, with shares of insurance companies and coal producers leading the rebound.

China Life, the nation's largest life insurer, rose 1.49 percent to 17.73 yuan per share; Ping An Insurance Company of China, Ltd. rose 2.19 percent to 40.65 yuan.

Coal-related stocks mostly rose, with Shanxi Coking Co., Ltd. up 2.8 percent to 12.13 yuan. Zhengzhou Coal Industry and Electric Power Co., Ltd. gained 3.12 percent to 10.57 yuan.

Shares of entertainment and media companies dropped, bucking a previous trend. Guangdong Alpha Animation and Culture Co., Ltd. closed down 1.29 percent at 29.02 yuan; Shanghai Xinhua Media Co., Ltd. fell 1.77 percent to 7.21 yuan.

Shares of shipmakers also failed to rise despite a Monday statement from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which said that China will work to boost the sector's development over the next four years.

CSSC Jiangnan Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. fell 0.1 percent to 19.38 yuan; China CSSC Holdings Ltd. dipped 0.96 percent to 38.07 yuan.
